 April 2010:

April 14th:

Out knocking on doors.  From now on till the election, that'll be the shape of things .. so no more blog entries until election day!

April 13th:

Another estate inspection - well not really an estate, looking at Bembrook Road with the Amicus Horizon estate manager for the area.  It's looking pretty good along there, no serious problems.  The problems with one or two anti-social tenants remain though, but Amicus Horizon are dealing with this.

April 12th:

More door knocking - Sandown Road this time.  A lot of people out, and a fair degree of apathy.  But a couple of converts to Labour, thanks to our work with the Ore Community Land Trust.

April 10th:

Opening of the Speckled Wood footpath, through the Upper Ore Valley.  I performed the opening 'ceremony', by cutting a 'green ribbon'.  Once again, all the local Labour councillors there, but not a sign of the Tories or Lib Dems.  I made the point that local people need to get involved to help maintain and preserve this open space.  I also said that Labour's policy is to preserve the valley as open space - the Tories still want to build housing on it, or at least, haven't said that they won't.  Around 30 people were there, who then enjoyed a beautiful guided walk up through the valley, in the spring sunshine.

April 8th:

An officer briefing with Jay and Jeremy about issues in Tressell Ward, then to the Tressell Police Panel meeting, at The Bridge.  Quite well attended this time - a lot of local concerns about fly-tipping, dog fouling and anti-social behaviour.  The usual concerns, I wish there was more we could do.  We'll just have to make sure the police keep targeting it, and keep up the pressure on the culprits, especially where problems are called by just one or two households.  Out door-knocking again later, in Sandown Road.  A good response there.

April 7th:

Another estate inspection, more of the Halton Estate.  Much the same as yesterday, really.

April 6th:

Out on an estate inspection today, with Amicus Horizon officers and local tenant representatives, this time looking at part of the Halton Estate.  It's not looking too bad, with some improvements to the internal decorations and better maintenance of the planting outside too.  The cleaning inside the blocks isn't up to scratch though.

April 1st:

Out door knocking today, this time in School Road.  Fortunately, the new contractors on the building seem to be behaving themselves, so there are no complaints, so far.  Quite a lot of interest in the Upper Ore valley too, and the work that's been going on there, with the footpath re-opening.  Ore Valley Forum executive in the evening.  As ever, none of the Tory councillors there, only myself, Jay Kramer and Jeremy Birch.  The local representatives there do notice the Baird Ward Tories' lack of interest in the Ore Valley.  It doesn't go down well at all.
